I started putting paintings on drums when I painted the djembes for a performing group.  Each member of the group then had their own unique look.  The paintings connected the drum and the drummer. 

The drummers also became connected with audiences in a new way.  The group members started hearing things like, " You play the lion drum don't you.  I saw you at the Medieval Fair". 

Each individual painting added together with sound to make a true experience every time they were together. They wove a new tapestry.

 Paintings on drums or other surfaces make wonderful gifts as they connect you with the people and images you care about.  They are created one at a time with the purpose of having meaning for a particular person.  Paintings change moods they can be peaceful, evoke memories, provide escape and cause joy. Like drumming they are a source of well being.  In a mass produced world having something of value that is a product of individual time and creation is a beautiful statement of an individuals personality.

You probably won't buy multiple drums in your lifetime.  Your drum should be special.  My  artwork goes on professional grade dumbek and djembe hand drums. When you see the one you want buy it, because when it is gone there won't be another one just like it anywhere again.

All drums are not created equal. The drums I use for paintings are tough and lightweight so I can carry them anywhere.  They are  made of environment friendly materials.  There is no threat of anthrax with my drums.  Only artist grade acrylic and India inks are used on them and they are finished with protective artist grade varnish or polyurethane to last a lifetime. These drums are easy to tune and don't react to weather changes.  They always sound great.  Unless other wise stated the djembes and dumbeks are Remo drums.
